Elizabeth Bennet, later Elizabeth Darcy, is one of the main protagonists in the story. At twenty years of age, she is the second daughter in the Bennet family. Her siblings are JaneKitty, Mary, and Lydia. She once refused a proposal for marriage by her cousin, Mr. Collins, who ended up later marrying her best friend, Charlotte Lucas, instead. She eventually marries Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Personality[]

Elizabeth Bennet is a headstrong, witty, and intelligent woman for her age. Elizabeth's strong-willed and intellectual personality is uncommon amongst women of that time and her tender age. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, though she is not rude. Despite that, her wit and intelligence bring her closer to her father, Mr. Bennet, and particularly to her sister, Jane, who represents a compliment to her personality. Her main antagonists are Lady Catherine De Bourgh, the Bingley sisters, Mrs. Hurst, and (later) Mr. Wickham.

Bennet Family[]

Age[]

During the story, when she visits her best friend, Charlotte, and they are all invited to the house of Lady Catherine De Bourgh, Lady Catherine asks her many questions about her family. Because Elizabeth gave her opinions "so decidedly," Lady Catherine asks her her age. She answers that she "is not one and twenty," meaning she is not yet twenty-one years of age ("one and twenty" being an older way of saying "twenty-one"; cf. German, "einundzwanzig" (lit. "one and twenty")), making her about two years older than her sister, Mary.

Physical Appearance[]

Elizabeth is a very beautiful young lady with a peach complexion, long brown slightly curly hair, full lips and brown eyes. She's slim and considered to be the second prettiest and most attractive of the five sisters (the first one would be Jane). In the book Lizzy is shorter than Kitty, but in the movie she's the tallest next to Jane.
